There are rumors circulating among the masses in Somalia that the virus doesn’t survive in hot weather, it doesn’t affect Muslims, that any disease bound to happen to you, would happen to you anyways, it doesn’t matter whether you are a in crowd or alone at home, that if affected, you can treat it in simple home remedies like eating honey and hot milk, among using other similar lay man’s advices.These fallacies are dangerous to all of us, and should be called for what they are.Coronavirus is a flu that affects everybody like common cold get into the human body in more severe manners that attacks your respiratory system to make your breathing difficult and eventually destroys your lungs, leading to death in some people, especially older generations whose immune system is weak and already struggling with other ailments.The best remedy to curtail the spread of the virus is to minimize bodily contacts with other people. This is what they mean by the expression “social distancing” to stay at home as a way of quarantining or isolating oneself.Of course, there are ways and home remedies to beat the virus, if affected. Among them, have enough food at home with plenty of liquids, water and lemon especially. Drink water every few minutes to avoid a dry throat, and to wash the virus downstream into the stomach for destruction. Above all, maintain good hygiene and wash hands thoroughly with soap whenever you touch surfaces. Avoid touching any spots of your face. Use your elbows to turn doorknobs. Make yourself comfortable at home while self-isolating. Use masks and gloves if you are attending an affected family member in an isolation room. Eat warm foods and adequately washed vegetables.
