ARAB SPRING RENEWED?

Garowe, April 11, 2019 – We are watching uphills, popular revolts and chaos in the streets of Algeria, Sudan and armed confrontation in Libya. We are also seeing the simmering popular discontents and state repressions in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. We witness vicious civil war and foreign military conflagration in Yemen. We experience the rise of violent extremism in Somalia and foreign military interventions in Somalia as a result.

Are we learning any lessons from these popular uprisings and foreign military involvement in variety of countries in the so-called developing countries?
In my personal assessment, there is a common denominator in all these rebellions, open or boiling beneath the surface. It is peoples’ desire for freedom. This is what would eventually happen, if people are prevented from choosing their own leaders.

A CUSTOMER’S ORDER

A customer in Galkayo came to a Caffè shop to sit and relax there for a minute. A waiter came up to take the customer’s order. The customer requested for safety. The waiter not quite understanding the customer’s order, went up to a more experienced waiter to seek explanation about this unique and peculiar customer’s order. The more experienced waiter explained that they don’t have safety here. The waiter returned to the customer to tell that they don’t carry safety here.

The customer quickly moved and started to run away from the spot.

This is a true story related to me today by a colleague of mine, Koombe.
